Plein Air Painting
for the outdoor enthusiast
Winter/Spring, 2013
held on the Niagara Escarpment, a Unesco world biosphere reserve
Painting outdoors improves your skills when working back in the studio. It is a great exercise to enhance observation and make sound choices when it comes to composition. Learn about what to wear, packing light, preparing surfaces, simplifying your pallet, and working fast in the changing light and temperature. Painting tools as well as mediums, including cold wax for oil, and polymer for acrylic, will be addressed. You will be responsible for your own supplies and a list is provided upon registration. Some outdoor easels are available. |
For over two decades, in the tradition of Emily Carr and the Group of Seven, Yates’ focus has been to paint directly from the land. She will share techniques including pre-mixing predominant seasonal pallets, building composition and economy of brushwork.
Ongoing Tuesdays throughout the winter: 10am -12:30pm
$85 for a series of 4 sessions. |
