This is another sketch to be considered for a large commission.
Working small allows
for experimentation and play. I have been changing /testing mediums (I like to
make my own) as well as underpainting with cold wax and a lovely orange/red by
Kama pigment.
Of course, what is underneath affects the work, so thinking
through an idea helps, although often when I prepare surfaces, the physical process
sparks the idea. I like the push-pull of planning and spontaneity.

I absolutely love this colour palette! Very subtle and soft and just the right amount of "glow". I always find that the mix of oranges and blue/green is difficult for me...but here, it just sings. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine and yes, i have had oranges and green TURN green. -this is reddish-almost like a cad light but more orange. By Kama pigment(love their paint, made in Canada, they ship)-Permanent Orange.
ReplyDeletei laid down the underpainting then went in wet into wet to build the rest of the painting.
I agree, this color palette is really beautiful and my favourite colors too. Such a beautiful painting Jan!
