new year

'New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights" Hamilton Wright Mabie

I have walked this path every day for 10 years—and it is always the first time.

  1. Absolutely beautiful Jan. I know what you mean about walking the same path...nature always provides something extraordinary...we can never keep pace with what she creates. We have had some spectacular pink sunsets of late, so I can really relate to this scene.
Hope you have a wonderful new year with lots of creativity!

  2. A very beautiful painting Jan, it is quieter in mood and atmosphere than your usual high energy paintings. Suitable for this reflective time of the year. Nice poem too. Wishing you all the best for 2011 go wow us all with your wonderful paintings Jan!

  3. Thanks for your comment Catherine-actually the colour of the painting has more yellow than pink, but i can't seem to adjust it properly with my image program.Happy New year to you too--my blog-perusal time lately is practical nil but i had time to peek at your blog and really like your plein air landscape--kudos to you for venturing out!

Caroline i hope i can live up to your tall order of 'WOW' when it comes to my new paintings! Yes, I find winter a more reflective season--and actually I LOVE just working in the comfort of the studio--so have just been going out for short sketches when i do the obligatory daily dog outing--and then working them into paintings back in the studio--that is usually my intention but all it seems to take is a look out the window and the plein air spirit commands me to pick up a briush and follow the view
