beautiful vagabonds

The very idea of a bird is a symbol and a suggestion to the poet. A bird seems to be at the top of the scale, so vehement and intense his life. . . . The beautiful vagabonds, endowed with every grace, masters of all climes, and knowing no bounds -- how many human aspirations are realized in their free, holiday-lives -- and how many suggestions to the poet in their flight and song!
John Burroughs (1837 - 1921), Birds and Poets, 1887

  2. Lovely piece and lovely poem added to it. A very nice way to start my morning, coffee in hand, and viewing some blogger friends' work. However, we have a few starlings now and they are a bit too pushy for my taste, chasing and bullying the other birds at the feeders. You've made this one more regal looking than the ones I see here, all fat as fat hens and just as speckled.

Rhonda i so agree re starlings being pushy and overbearing-might even go so far as to say the 'b' word-bully! but I have to say I do hold a soft spot for the 'black sheep' non-conformists of the bird-world! thanks again for the visit and for taking the time to leave your words
